WASN’T THIS ONE OF THE CROP
CIRCLES?
Hubble has
photographed an unusual pre-planetary nebula called
IRAS 23166+1655 forming around the star LL Pegasi hidden behind central

astronomers report the material forming the spiral is moving outwards at
a speed of about 31,069 mph (50,000 km/hour). Astronomers theorize the
spiral has formed because LL Pegasi is a binary star system. One star is
losing material as it and the companion star are orbiting each other.
The spacing between layers in the spiral of 800 years relates to the
orbital period of the binary. Stars that have masses between half our
Sun's, up to about eight times our Sun's mass, do not explode as
supernovae at the ends of their lives, but instead can create these
intricate spirals as their outer layers of gas drift into space. The
central star is still behind dust. See:
Hubble.
