Reconstruction of the
2014 Black Wood formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct the inscribed equilateral triangle of circle 1, pointing up.

3. Construct the inscribed equilateral triangle of circle 1, pointing down.

4. Construct a circle, passing through the top of triangle 2, and passing through the lefthand and righthand intersections of triangles 2 and 3.

5. Copy circle 4 to the center of circle 1.

6. Draw the connecting line between the upper intersections of circle 5 with the lefthand side of triangle 2 and the righthand side of triangle 3.

7. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 6.

8. Draw the connecting line between the top of triangle 2 and the intersection of its lower side with the lefthand side of triangle 3.

9. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of line 8 and the horizontal centerline, passing through the upper intersection of circle 7 and the vertical centerline.

10. Copy circle 9 to the center of circle 1.

11. Construct two circumscribed equilateral triangles of circle 10, one pointing to the left, one to the right.

12. Construct two circumscribed equilateral triangles of circle 7, one pointing to the left, one to the right.

13. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the angular points of triangles 11.

14. Draw the three diagonals of the hexagram (regular six-pointed star) made up by triangles 12, as shown.

15. Draw the three diagonals of the hexagon (regular six-sided polygon) enclosed by triangles 12, as shown.

16. Circles 1 and 13, triangles 11 and 12, and diagonals 14 and 15, are used for the final reconstruction.

17. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.

18. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

19. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2014 Black Wood formation.

20. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
